Brant & Cochran Axe Warranty
All Brant & Cochran axes come with a 20 year warranty from the year of manufacture (stamped on the axe head) against manufacturing defects.
We inspect each axe multiple times as it moves through the manufacturing process and finally before boxing it up to put in your hands. However, there may be defects in the axe that can’t be seen due to problems with the steel or heat-treating process. Don’t worry though. Of the thousands of axes we have made we have had only a dozen or so returned to us with any of these defects.
The warranty does not apply to normal wear and tear, lack of maintenance or mis-use. It also does not apply to variations in the axe head, handle or sheath which are natural to the steel, wood or leather or are a part of our hand-forged axe making process. Each axe is unique so the hammer marks, eye size, hafting of handle to head, and grain orientation of the handle are different from one axe to the next. It is the nature of a product made by hand and not robots driven by A.I.
To extend the life of your axe wipe it down after use to keep moisture off the bit and oil it with camellia oil or other blade oil to keep it rust free. An axe handle “breathes” so it will expand or shrink due to excessive moisture or arid conditions (like keeping it perched next to your wood stove). Oil your handle regularly with raw linseed oil. The sheath can stay in top condition by making sure you don’t get it wet – either from the axe bit or weather. You can buy replacement handles or sheaths from us if needed due to wear and tear or loss.
If you do find a manufacturing defect in your Brant & Cochran axe, please contact us immediately and we will take care of your problem. Our goal is to provide you with an axe that, if taken care of properly, will last generations.
